What information do I require to order spectacles from glassesandsunglasses.co.uk?

You require your spectacle prescription, which must be less than 2 years old, and your pupillary distance (PD). Your optician is required by law to give you this information.

Can I measure my own pupillary Distance (PD)?

Yes, it's easy! Your PD is the distance between the centre of your pupils when you are looking straight ahead.

To measure your PD:
1. Place a millimeter ruler on the bridge of your nose.
2. Measure the distance between the centre of your pupils (the black dots in the middle of your eyes) by looking in a mirror.

You can also have a friend measure it for you or get the information from your optician.

As a guideline: Most adult PD's are between 55-70

Can I purchase bifocal glasses and varifocal glasses from glassesandsunglasses.co.uk?

Yes, we are proud to offer both bifocal and varifocal lenses. Glassesandsunglasses.co.uk have developed a formula for determining the optimal position of the reading segment of a bifocal and fitting height of a varifocal lens. Usually, when fitting height measurements are taken, it requires the customer to be present wearing the frame. However, our mathematical formula does not require the patient to be present. This new method of calculating bifocal and varifocal heights has proven to be as accurate as conventional measuring techniques. Ordering bifocal and varifocal lenses online is now easy and accurate with glassesandsunglasses.co.uk.

Do registered optometrists own and run glassesandsunglasses.co.uk?

Yes, Registered Optometrists Karl and Beverley Spinks developed glassesandsunglasses.co.uk when they saw the need to bring consumers high quality prescription eyewear at affordable prices with the convenience of shopping from your own home. Our large optical superstore has already produced over 150,000 pairs of spectacles over the last 10 years. You can trust in the fact that a registered optometrist supervises every process involved in the production of spectacles.

Why are spectacles so much cheaper from glassesandsunglasses.co.uk than from my high street optician?

Glassesandsunglasses.co.uk has been developed by Optometrists to create an inexpensive method for people to buy high quality prescription spectacles online. High street opticians have very large overheads and spectacle sales from high street opticians have to subsidise the cost of providing eye examinations. As glassesandsunglasses.co.uk does not provide eye examinations, we can afford to sell our glasses for very low prices.

Do glassesandsunglasses.co.uk sell the same frames and lenses as high street opticians?

Yes, the high quality frames we sell are sold in many high street opticians for about £70.00. We use only high quality lenses from the same suppliers as the major high street opticians.

Will my spectacles be made accurately?

Customer satisfaction is our No.1 priority. Every effort has been made to provide our customers with a pleasant, convenient and enjoyable shopping experience. We guarantee 100% accuracy on all prescriptions. All prescription spectacles, prior to despatch, pass a strict quality control procedure. There are six separate checking procedures carried out and documented for every pair of spectacles we produce. A Registered Optometrist supervises the production of spectacles.

Can I buy prescription sunglasses?

Yes, any of our standard single vision, bifocal and varifocal lenses can be made into sunglasses.

What are photochromic lenses?

Photochromic lenses have the ability to change from light to dark. The tint shade will depend on the brightness of the day. The latest photochromic lenses change from nearly clear to very dark in a very short time. Our photochromic lenses are also thinner than standard plastic.

How should I clean my spectacle lenses?

Every pair of spectacles we sell is supplied with a special microfibre cleaning cloth. Only use this cloth to keep your lenses clean. Do not use tissue paper, as this will scratch your lenses.

If I require intermediate spectacles for the VDU screen, what ADD do I use?

For VDU spectacles, use the intermediate ADD written by your optician on your prescription. Then choose the single vision reading lens option.

Will my credit card details be secure when making payments?

Glassesandsunglasses.co.uk uses WorldPay, which is a universally accepted means of securing payments online. Glassesandsunglasses.co.uk do not receive or hold your credit card information. If your purchase is authorised by WorldPay, they will issue us with an authorisation code to confirm the transaction.

Do you accept NHS Vouchers?

Yes, payment must initially be made by Visa/MasterCard/Switch/Solo and Maestro credit and debit cards via WorldPay. Then once you have received your glasses, if you send us the fully completed NHS Voucher, we will refund the exact value of the voucher to your credit or debit card.

How long does it take to receive my order?

Goods will usually be delivered within 10 working days, but please allow up to 20 working days. You will receive an email when goods have been despatched.

What if my frames need a minor adjustment after I receive them?

All frames are thoroughly inspected and aligned prior to being despatched. If you need a minor adjustment, most optical stores will do it for free.

What if I entered some information incorrectly?

Immediately call or send us an email because we process orders very quickly in our in-house laboratories. For this reason, please double-check your prescription and delivery address information prior to submitting your order.

What if I receive a damaged or incorrect product?

If there is extensive damage to the package when it arrives, refuse the order. If you receive damaged or incorrect product, email our Customer Service Department IMMEDIATELY at customerservices@glassesandsunglasses.co.uk. Please have your order number from the enclosed invoice available. Depending on the product and its availability, it may take up to 10 working days to process your return once the item is back in our possession. We will notify you of any delays and will do our best to rectify any problems as quickly as possible.

Are your frames and lenses guaranteed?

You receive the same guarantees we receive from manufacturers and suppliers, allowing you full advantage of the guarantees available. Individual product guarantees are listed below:

Frames:

All spectacle frames are guaranteed for 1 Year from the date of purchase against any manufacturer's defects. Manufacturer's defects include: structural design, hinges, welding points, and colourings. Manufacturer's defects DO NOT include: flagrant misuse causing frame damage, scratching or tarnish; pet damage; destruction or damage by vehicle; stepping on or sitting on the frame; bending or twisting the frame; or any other damage not considered a manufacturing flaw.

To determine if your frame falls within the guidelines for manufacturer's defect, please contact the Customer Service Department by email at customerservices@glassesandsunglasses.co.uk. A £5.00 handling fee will be charged for all frames exchanged with manufacturer's defects.

Prescription Lenses:

Standard prescription plastic lenses can be scratched quite easily. Scratch-resistant and multi anti reflective coatings make lenses more resistant to scratches. However, no lens is scratch proof and rough handling or incorrect cleaning can still create surface scratches. There is no guarantee for scratched or broken lenses.

What if I don't like the spectacles I have purchased for any reason?

With our 100% satisfaction guarantee, if for any reason you do not like the spectacles you have purchased, you can return them within 14 days of the despatch date and we will either exchange your frame for another colour in the same model or replace the lenses, even if your optician has made a mistake with your prescription. When returning items, please follow our returns procedure. After 14 days, non-defective items are non-returnable and non-exchangeable. Credits may take up to 7 days to show up in your account depending on your bank.

Will you reglaze my old frame?

No, old frames are usually worn and are easily damaged and broken. We sell high quality glasses at incredibly low prices and it is not sensible for us to reglaze old glasses with the potential problems it may cause you.

Can I use a contact lens prescription to order spectacles?

No, your spectacle prescription is different to your contact lens prescription.
